Lt. Fogarty served with the 367th Bomber Squadron, 306th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was killed in action when his plane was shot down on a mission to Kiel, Germany, to bomb submarine pens. He is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium, Plot A Row 37 Grave 7. Lt. Fogarty was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
