Lt. Bartlett left the University of Illinois in his second year when war broke out and he was admitted to the First Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. After practically finishing the student course there he applied for and was transferred to the Air Service and ordered to the School of Military Aeronautics, Berkeley, California. Lt. Bartlett received further instruction at Camp Dick, Texas; Dorr Field, Florida, where he was commissioned; Air Service Gunnery School, Dayton, Ohio; instructor at Payne Field, Mississippi; Garden City, Long Island; and Carlstrom Field, Arcadia, Florida, where he died when his plane crashed.
