Lt. Cox was one of 22 men killed in a mid-air plane crash at Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a teacher at Johnson City, IL, High School before entering the Navy. In August, 1945, there was an announcement from 20th Air Force Headquarters that Lt. Cox was one of several Illinois men who were awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in combat missions against the Japanese Empire. Lt. Cox is buried at Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale, IL.
