Lt. Herrick enlisted on March 2, 1942, at Chanute Airfield, Rantoul, Illinois. He served with the 96th Bombardment Group, 338th Army Air Force as a bombardier. He was killed in action in Germany. Lt. Herrick was awarded two Purple Hearts and Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
