Captain Brooks served with the 6th Infantry Battalion, 1st Armored Division. He was killed when his vehicle struck a German land mine in northern Italy. A veteran of 18 months service in the South Pacific, Captain Brooks served for a time as instructor in the Armored Infantry School at Ft. Knox, Kentucky before going to Italy early in 1945. He is buried at Plot G Row 10 Grave 31 at Florence American Cemetery, Florence, Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
