Captain Arnold served with Headquarters, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy. He was killed in a raid over Regensburg, Germany, just before he was to take over as commanding officer of his squadron. He went overseas in January, 1944. He is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium, Plot C Row 34 Grave 13. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
