Cadet Cooper died in a plane crash at Hammond, Louisiana. He had enlisted at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois, on April 22, 1942, and did his training at Maxwell Field, Alabama, and at Helena, Arkansas. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal. Cadet Cooper is buried at Chillicothe City Cemetery, Chillicothe, Illinois.
