Lt. Commander Lubell (formerly Lubelsky) died July, 1945, at Great Lakes Naval Hospital of wounds received while on active duty with the Navy in the Pacific. He participated in many major engagements while assigned to the USS Mississippi. The USS Mississippi took part in the Libgayen Gulf landings in the Philippines in late 1944. The ship was hit by a Japanese kamikaze. This resulted in the wounds Lt. Lubell died from.
