Lt. Knudson enlisted on April 2, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He served with the 338th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group as a P-38 pilot. He was killed in action in Holland. Lt. Knudson earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
