World War II
Colonel Gibson was a World War I hero where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honor. He died of a heart attack in Columbus, Georgia, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Colonel Gibson had left law school in April, 1917, to enlist, and had remained in the Army since the end of World War I.
