Community and Campus Day of Service

Every spring, UI faculty, staff and students unite with local citizens to feed families on Community and Campus Day of Service, part of National Volunteer Week. On April 11, 2015, 1,500 volunteers working in shifts packaged more than 148,000 meals and repackaged more than 56,000 servings of oatmeal for Urbana-based Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Volunteers supplied the Red Cross with an additional 12,000 meals for residents of Fairdale, Ill., a town destroyed by a tornado on April 9, just two days before.
