Things we love about Illinois: Move-in Day
Move-In Day
It’s the late-August day when the campus collectively shifts sideways and opens up to the incoming class of freshmen and parents transporting them to their new residence-hall lives. Parking is rearranged and traffic rerouted as arriving students get help from curb to dorm room by upperclassmen (whose kindness and school spirit is brightly reflected in their orange T-shirts). Even University officials—right up to the level of president—are known to switch out their administrative garb for Bermuda shorts and baseball caps, the better to lend a hand to the new arrivals.
