Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

Classmates and veteran veterinarians Dr. Kelli Kramer, ACES ’01, DVM ’07, (left) and Dr. Nina Hansen, ACES ’07, DVM ’07, mushed from north to south-central Alaska this past January to provide on-the-Spot (as well as on-the-Fido, on-the-Rover, etc.) health care to the stars of the four-day Copper Basin 300 Sled Dog Race. To ensure the safety and well-being of the dogs competing in what is billed as “Alaska’s toughest 300-mile dog race,” Kramer and Hansen teamed up with four other vets to examine the 44 dog teams—some 516 animals in all—at the race’s start, finish and at checkpoints in between to make sure the competitors were fit.
