Membership Testimonials – Alumni Sharing their Stories

“As a first-generation college student who grew up in a small town in central Illinois, graduating from the University of Illinois was a life-changing milestone for me. Because I was so grateful for the excellent education and so proud to be an alum, it was an easy decision for me to join the Alumni Association as a life member right after graduation. Over the years, the Alumni Association has enriched my connection to the University on all levels – by hosting events for members, providing real time information about the University, and providing numerous avenues to engage – both online and in person. Supporting the Alumni Association by becoming a member ensures that these opportunities, along with its mission of “Building Relationships for Life”, will continue for generations to come. In short, I encourage every alum to become a member of the Alumni Association – it’s not only a privilege but a great way to pay it forward!”

“For more than 20 years I’ve been a member of UIAA having joined right after graduation. Through the Illinois Alumni magazine, I love still feeling connected to the university. The magazine always has the latest news including what my former classmates are doing, as well as interesting school history, to proudly share with family, friends and colleagues. There’s also really cool discounts for tickets, alumni gear and other activities that my family has enjoyed and has been great for gift giving.”

“Even though I am a recent graduate of the University of Illinois, being part of the alumni association membership has enriched my sense of belonging to the alumni community by keeping me connected. After my graduation in May 2024, I moved to North Carolina for my first full time job. While I was eager and excited to see something new, I am also an Illinois native so I was moving away from everything I knew. After being so involved with the university during my undergrad, I wanted an opportunity to stay connected, so I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to be a part of the Alumni Association Membership Committee. Though I am just starting my tenure with the Board and my life as an alum of the University of Illinois, the alumni association membership has made me feel part of the Illinois family even though I am not physically in Illinois.
