Lt. Artman was killed when his company came under enemy mortar fire at Binh Duong, South Vietnam, an outpost of the 25th Infantry Division which he had been serving as headquarters company executive officer. A combat engineer, Lt. Artman entered the service in January, 1967 and was commissioned by the U.S. Corps of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia in November, 1967. He was assigned to duty in Vietnam October 25 and was in a group known as “The Wolfhounds” at the time of his death.
