Staff Sgt. Norris was inducted into the Army on September 19, 1967 and sent to Ft. Benning, Georgia to NCO school from February to July, 1968 and graduated as Staff Sergeant. He went to Vietnam on August 20, 1968 and served with the 9th Infantry. He was killed by enemy fire in Dinh Tuong, South Vietnam. He was Platoon Leader and was reportedly killed while trying to reach two of his men who were wounded and lying in an exposed position. Staff Sgt. Norris earned the Bronze Star.
