Sgt. Morrison served with the 1544th Transportation Company, Illinois Army National Guard, based in Paris, Illinois. She was killed when Logistical Base Seitz west of Baghdad, Iraq, was hit by a barrage of mortar fire on September 5. The 1544th was attached to the Army’s 13th Corps Support Command which oversees distribution of military fuel, food, water and other supplies to U.S. forces across Iraq. Sgt. Morrison handled satellite and computer communications and drove a truck. She was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Shawna is buried in Edgar Cemetery, Paris, Illinois.
