“I”s on the World: Norway their way

Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

Whether they are near or far from home, Gary, ’75 BUS, and Cheryl Hemmer, ’76 MEDIA, hold their Alma Mater close to their hearts. “When traveling, Gary often wears his Illinois jacket and baseball cap,” Cheryl boasts. The couple, who took a trip to Norway (where they met this troll in Bergen), embarked on a 12-day coastal cruise north to the Russian border and back. The Hemmers also made time to cross the Arctic Circle, go on an eagle safari, sail to a glacier on a small boat and enjoy midnight concerts. “We finished our trip with a train ride to Oslo where we saw stave churches, 1,000-year-old Viking ships, the Kon-Tiki raft and the Nobel Peace Center,” Cheryl shares.
