I’s on the World: South African Safari

Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

South Africa was an ideal setting for Don, MS ’70 ENG, PHD ’73 ENG, and Colette Henley, MS ’72 LAS, to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple joined a UIAA EXPLORERS camera safari to South Africa pre-pandemic. Don is retired from Argonne National Laboratories, Colette from Naperville Central High School. They have four children; oldest son, David, ’95 ENG, also is an Illini.

The couple visited the wine lands and botanical garden near Cape Town and toured the prison (now a museum) where Nelson Mandela was held captive. The trip also included Victoria Falls and Pretoria, as well as game drives in Botswana and Zimbabwe.
