Talkin’ Illini: Marissa Clapp
What have you been up to since leaving Illinois?
Once I graduated with a degree in kinesiology in May 2009, I moved to Houston to attend PA [physician assistant] school. I worked as a PA in surgical oncology and then reconstructive surgery, helping patients who’ve had physical trauma.
What are your favorite student-athlete memories?
There are so many, from competing at the Big Ten Championships my senior year to achieving goals and times I wanted, and setting school records. The best part is the deep friendships that were forged.
Are you still involved in swimming?
Yes, I still swim five or six times a week as part of a master’s program in Houston. You’re at the peak of your athletic
career in college, but I still try to stay in shape by swimming on a regular basis.
